24, 2011, at Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, Orland
Park, IL.
The Chicagoland Chapter held its spring workshop on April 30, 2011 at Grace Lutheran in River Forest, IL The theme was Make Your Library Bloom. David Goetz author of Death by Suburb spoke on 'Burb Toxins and Antidotes.A
Nuts and Bolts session of preserving and repairing materials and a
second of what the library should have in its collection from a pastor's
point of view. This was led by pastor emeritus Dean Lueking. David Goetz signed copies of his book.
Fall 2010 - FALL
INTO GREAT IDEAS FOR CHURCH LIBRARIES is the theme for the fall workshop
of the Chicagoland Chapter of the National Church Library Association.
It was held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4501 Main St., Downers
Grove. Family Book Stores displayed and sold new titles for browsing and buying at a 20% discount. Inspirational
speaker and author Keri Wyatt Kent spoke. Keri is the author of some 6
titles, "Rest : living in Sabbath simplicity" her most recent. Sabbath
simplicity will be the focus of her talk. There also was a session on
managing your library and after lunch a panel of librarians talked
about reading groups and book discussion group in their libraries.
September 26, 2009, the Chicagoland Chapter met at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lombard IL.
The theme of the workshop was "Finding Joy in What We Do!"
Author Allie Pleiter spoke in the morning and her topic is "The Funny Factor: Why Humor is our Best Defense in a Stressful World". Other topics for the day included "Promotion Can Be Fun" led by Amy Ruhter a local marketing director and Lois Schultz. "Organizing a User Friendly Library" by Kristan Schultz.
A luncheon was served and the Family Christian Stores brought book to sell with a 20% discount offered to the attending church librarians.
The Chicagoland Chapter held it's Spring workshop on April 25, 2009, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church , Downers Grove Illinois. The theme was "Focus on Fiction". Lyn Austin well known author spoke about how she researches her material. There was also a session on "Favorite titles or series of patrons" and just "What is doing well in "your" library". Our Fall meeting was held September 20th at the LaGrange Bible Church in LaGrange, IL.
Our Spring meeting was held on April 26, 2008, hosted by Grace Lutheran Church, LaGrange, IL. Cindy and Jeff Crosby did a presentation on trends in Christian fiction and nonfiction.
40th Anniversary Celebration and Spring Workshop - A special program that included lunch, election of officers, highlights of our 40 years together as church librarians and guest speaker, Nicole Mazzarella, 2006 Christy Award Winner for her first novel, This Heavy Silence was held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Naperville on April 28, 2007.
