About the Buckeye Chapter 

The Buckeye Chapter began as a result of a Columbus Interdenominational Church Library conference held at Peace Lutheran Church (Gahanna, OH), held in the spring of 1986. It was organized and run by a group of O.S.U. library employees with the help of several people from Peace Lutheran. There was not any budget and did not have any idea of how many people would attend but God seemed to be leading us. We didn't even have a list of churches or their addresses. We each took a portion of the yellow page church listings in the telephone book and hand addressed envelopes. A member of the congregation helped reproduce the conference flier and Peace Lutheran's church council liaison talked to the church council into appropriating the money for postage to do the mailing. It was a huge leap of faith that a small handful of O.S.U. library employees.  Over 100 people registered and attended the conference.  There was a group who attended that decided to start the Buckeye Chapter.

We are inviting church librarians from Ohio to attend the Buckeye Chapter’s Fall Anniversary Celebration. This is an opportunity to bring together church librarians from around the state to show the history of the Buckeye Chapter and to show other church librarians how being a part of this organization can benefit your church library.  If your church doesn't have a church library, your Christian Education Director may know of someone who would enjoy starting one. The O.S.U. group that did the Interdenominational Conference back in 1986 worked very hard, and the conference was a success. God was a huge part of all of this.

In the past the Buckeye Chapter has offered workshops, trips to other libraries, speakers, library technology and creating a church library policy, informational brochures to name a few.

Previous Meetings

The spring 2012 Church Library Conference of the National Church Library Association OH Buckeye Chapter was held March 24, 2012. 

Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the NCLA fall meeting met on Saturday October 30th at 10:30 a.m. at the Thompson Library.  Since this was not a formal meeting, no dues were collected.  Tour of the Thompson Library began at 10:30 until @ noon.  The tour included information on the OSU Libraries and the Hilendar Collection of Slavic manuscripts, OSU's special and rare collections in religious studies.  Lunch was across campus at the student union.

The Ohio Buckeye Chapter held their annual meeting on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 105 E. Mulberry Street, Lancaster, OH 43130.  We opened the meeting with devotions at 10:00 a.m. and begin our annual business meeting at 10:15 a.m.   The program involved on-line reference sources for church libraries, i.e., specifically, sources for helping develop Bible studies and Vacation Bible School programs. The day ended with a tour of the St. Peter's Library.

Buckeye Chapter Fall Meeting was held on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Peace Lutheran Church, 465 Clark State Rd Gahanna, OH 43230 

The Buckeye Chapter held their annual meeting on April 18, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Middletown, Ohio an election of officers was held.

This NCLA that the Buckeye Chapter of the NCLA met on November 8, 2008 to tour the Methesco Library on the campus of the Methodist Theological School in Delaware County, Ohio. David Powell agreed to conduct a tour of the school's library. This was not a business meeting, rather it was more of a way to have an enjoyable day in a library then lunch as a group afterward.

The Spring Buckeye Chapter meeting of the National Church Library Association meeting was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown on Saturday, April 12, 2008.  The cost of $13, includes dues for the association as well as the cost of your lunch.  The ladies of the church will be serving lunch.  There will be a business meeting, tour of library and book exchange and round table groups discussing: Buying New Materials, Promoting Your Library, and Finding & Keeping Volunteers.  Please contact the church via email or call (513) 727-8674.
