Previous Meetings

The fall 2011 meeting was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, located at 9350 Braddock Road, Burke, Virginia on September 24th. The topic was "Which books REALLY circulate from your church library?" We hope that all members will come with stories or statistics from their own libraries about the books people check out (and the books that stay on the shelf!).

The Washington, DC area local chapter held a fall meeting Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church, Virginia.

The Spring meeting of the Washington DC metropolitan area local chapter of NCLA was held Thursday, March 25, 2010, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The program was about promoting use of the church library.

On May 9, 2009, the DC area local chapter of NCLA met at historic St. Paul's Rock Creek Parish in Washington, DC. Our meeting topic was collection building, and we spent much of our time discussing what a church library mission statement should say, and how to decide what books to add to our collection. We also discussed donation and weeding policies. We used the NCLA web site's articles on writing a library mission statement, designing a materials selection policy, donation policy, and weeding as guidelines. Members offered examples from their church libraries.

The Washington, D.C. area chapter of the National Church Library Association fall meeting was held October 22, 2008, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Ginny Lopez , librarian at Emmanuel, hosted the meeting. Ann Dorsey gave a  talk on book preservation and repair of much-used books widely published in multiple formats, such as prayer books, popular trade books, or Bibles, with suggestions for basic techniques, equipment and materials. This was followed by mini-workshop. Attendees were asked to bring in a book for repair and given a list of a few materials to bring in and repair the book during the workshop. Ann also gave us a short summary of a church library conference that she attended last May. Some of our members are also members of another local church library association and were invited to attend that conference.

The first meeting was held Thursday, April 3rd at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church, Virginia. Beth Neu, Member Liaison of NCLA, attend the meeting to share resources from the NCLA and support the developing chapter.
